Middle Class and Small Businesses Foot the Bill for the HIT

The Stop The HIT Coalition today released a new infographic depicting how the Health Insurance Tax (HIT) is disproportionately skewed in a way that hurts the middle class and small businesses.

The HIT targets employers who purchase health insurance in the fully-insured market, meaning 88 percent of small business owners bear the brunt of the HIT.

HIT Infographic #3

Overall, the HIT is expected to tax hardworking Americans to the tune of $130 billion between 2016-2025.

Congress recognizes that this poorly-constructed tax is harming the very people and companies that our economy needs to grow. In December 2015, Members of Congress across the political spectrum came together in support of legislation that suspends the impact of the HIT for one year. We now ask Congress to continue to stand on the side of hardworking Americans and repeal this harmful tax once and for all.
