To say small businesses are essential to sustained U.S. economy growth is an understatement when you look at the facts. According to the Small Business Administration, seven of every 10 new jobs are created by small businesses. They employ just over half of the country’s private sector workforce. Small businesses also generated 64 percent of net new jobs over the past 15 years.
This week is National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. Not only should we be celebrating their immense value in our communities, but also talking about what we can do to continue to encourage their strong contributions to our national economy.
Ensuring policies are in place that facilitate growth is essential. Unfortunately, the health insurance tax included in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) would cost small business more than $100 billion over 10 years and potentially halt growth and result in layoffs. For the millions of Americans who will affected, this is unacceptable.
As a result, the Stop the HIT Coalition will dedicate Small Business Week to highlighting the stories of small businesses across the country and educating policy makers and the public on the potential effects of the HIT. We will post a unique blog each day from a small business owner talking about how the HIT could impact their business and the community. We will also be highlighting these stories and other key facts on Facebook and Twitter.
We encourage you to learn more about the HIT and share your story with us. We would love to feature you in the future, and we look forward to working
together to Stop the HIT.
