The Countdown to the HIT Has Begun

As small businesses across the country prepare to shoulder much of the costs of the President’s healthcare law, the Coalition is stepping up our efforts to urge Congress to take the right steps to protect them against this burden. On January 1, 2014, more than 1.7 million small business owners will see the cost of their healthcare coverage and that of their employees rise as a result of the new health insurance tax (HIT). With more than $100 billion on the line in the first decade alone, businesses will be faced with some tough decisions including whether to raise the cost of care for employees, reduce their workforce, restrict hiring or lay-off workers. We must not let that happen.

Less than eight months until this tax is set to begin, the countdown to the HIT represents far more than just another impending rise in taxes. It means putting the brakes on the very motor that is driving our economy out of recession. That’s why the Coalition is stepping up its efforts to share the facts about this short-sighted, discriminatory tax and why it must be repealed before it’s too late to turn back the clock.

We’ve made major improvements to our website to make it more user-friendly and to encourage ongoing conversations with small business owners and employees who are feeling the HIT firsthand. This new blog forum is just one of the many ways we’ll be reaching out to our members (new and old) to keep you informed and we’ll feature unique perspectives from all aspects of the small business community.

You can also easily access the latest studies outlining exactly what the HIT will cost small businesses, letters of support and additional resources from member organizations. The site also features an easy way for you to sign-up and be part of the solution by becoming a supporter of the Coalition [LINK] and urging your member of Congress to support bipartisan legislative efforts in to repeal this burdensome tax.

Do you want to know exactly how your state is impacted and how you can get involved? The updated map features the potential state impact of the HIT and lets you know if your member of Congress has signed bipartisan legislation to repeal this detrimental tax.

As we continue to strengthen our efforts in support of repealing the HIT, the time for action is now. If you’re interested in getting involved, send us an email and we will offer ways you can participate. We also encourage you to visit our “Your Story” page and let us know how the HIT will impact you.

Check the blog and the new website often for updates and news, and be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for additional information. We hope you will join our efforts and fight to protect America’s #1 job creators.
