President Obama’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will go into effect in 2014 unless the US Supreme Court rules it unconstitutional.
When it does, it will impose a tax on health insurance companies.
Monday, a representative with Stop the Hit stopped in Fairmont to talk to small business owners about how this tax would affect them.
The Stop the Hit coalition is concerned that insurers will pass the tax on to their customers in the form of higher premiums and cost sharing and that would affect small business owners.
“We believe that health insurance reform should be about making more affordable for small business, which is the bulk of business here in West Virginia,” said Tom Susman of TSG Consulting. “Not making it more expensive, which is a large issue we have with the tax.”
