Rep. Morgan Griffith discusses Obamacare with small business owners

Four days after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a large portion of the Affordable Care Act, Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-Salem) came home to discuss what can be changed in the law.

On Monday, Griffith spoke about the Affordable Care Act with a dozen or so small business owners at Mac and Bob’s restaurant in Salem. The event was hosted by the National Federation of Independent Businesses.

Much of the meeting focused on Griffith’s call to eliminate the Health Insurance Tax (HIT), which he said is hurting small businesses.

Several business owners agreed, saying healthcare costs are going up along with the amount of paperwork.

Following the Supreme Court decision, Griffith believes Congress needs to focus on fixing Obamacare in the short term, not repealing it.

“Certainly, until after the elections next year the only thing we can do is try to fix the worst problems that are out there with Obamacare,” he said. “It’s costing the American family a lot of money. It helps some, but hurts most.”

Griffith hopes the Senate will cooperate with the House of Representatives to make the changes.
