Small Business Owners Talk Health Care Costs

Local small business owners met Friday with members of a coalition opposing an upcoming provision in the federal Affordable Care Act.

The roundtable discussion, hosted by the Stop the HIT Coalition, which is led by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), was held at the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce offices.

The coalition and NFIB are against what they are calling HIT (health insurance tax) included in the Affordable Care Act to take effect in 2014 and is an annual fee on health insurers. Opponents argue that the cost increases will be passed along to small businesses and those who are self employed.

A bipartisan bill in the U.S. House of Representatives and a Republican-sponsored bill in the U.S. Senate propose to repeal it.
