Stop The HIT Statement on Immediate Need for HIT Relief in 2018

Washington, D.C. – Following the introduction of HR 4894 – legislation to delay the health insurance tax (HIT) for 2018 – by Congresswoman Kristi Noem (R-ND), Stop The HIT’s Executive Director Elena Tompkins released the following statement:

“The last thing that small businesses need is a massive tax increase on their insurance coverage this year. We applaud Congresswoman Noem for her continued leadership on behalf of America’s 29 million small businesses and their employees by introducing legislation that would suspend the health insurance tax for 2018. If enacted, the Harmful Tax Prevention Act (HTPA) would provide direct savings to small businesses – roughly $500 on average – through rebates or premium reductions in 2018 alone.

Thanks to Congresswoman Noem’s work, Congress recently approved a bipartisan suspension of the tax for 2019. That suspension should begin now. We urge Members in both the House and Senate to provide relief from the HIT immediately and protect millions of small businesses from this misguided tax.”
