Coalition Members Applaud Heitkamp on HIT Delay Bill

For Immediate Release

Stop The HIT Coalition Commends
Senator Heidi Heitkamp on HIT Delay Bill

Following the introduction of S. 1978 to delay the Health Insurance Tax (HIT), members of the Stop The HIT Coalition commended Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) for her efforts to provide much-needed relief to the millions of hardworking Americans suffering under the weight of rising premiums.

The HIT returns in 2018 after a one-year suspension–adding to the cost of coverage for small businesses and their employees, seniors, and families. Senator Heitkamp and her colleagues’ efforts to delay the HIT would save middle-class families roughly $500 in 2018 alone, according to a report from Oliver Wyman.

The letter notes that, “By advancing a two-year suspension of HIT, S. 1978 provides health insurance cost relief to small business owners, employees, and consumers.”

“We applaud you and your colleagues who joined you in introducing this legislation. In 2015, we were encouraged when a bipartisan group of nearly 400 Republicans and Democrats in the House and the Senate came together to suspend the HIT for 2017. We are committed to working with you to continue to build support for this effort.”
