Coalition Statement on Need for Inclusion of HIT Relief in Graham-Cassidy Health Plan

Stop The HIT Coalition Statement on
Need for Inclusion of HIT Relief in Graham-Cassidy Health Plan

The Stop The HIT Coalition, which represents millions of small business owners, their employees and the self-employed, issued the following statement in response to the Senate Finance Hearing on the Graham-Cassidy-Heller-Johnson Proposal.

“As 2018 premiums are finalized, there is an urgent need to address the cost challenges facing millions of Americans. Relief from the harmful Health Insurance Tax (HIT) is one of the most effective and important provisions aimed at achieving this goal and should be included in the Graham-Cassidy Health Plan as well as any healthcare reform legislation.”

“For far too long this sorely misguided sales tax on premiums has plagued more than 29 million small business owners and their nearly 60 million employees, as well as middle-class families, Medicaid beneficiaries and those purchasing coverage in the individual market. Without immediate Congressional action, the HIT will return next year forcing consumers and small business owners to pay an additional $14.3 billion – further driving up the cost of care for those who can least afford it.”
