Leading Small Business Organizations Urge Congress to Provide Immediate Relief from the Costly Health Insurance Tax

For Immediate Release

On behalf of the nation’s 29 million small businesses, their employees and the self-employed, the Stop The HIT Coalition issued the following statement urging Congressional leaders to include relief from the Health Insurance Tax (HIT) in any end-of-year legislative package:

“At a time when millions of Americans are struggling under the weight of rising health care costs, it is imperative that Congress provide relief from the costly HIT before year’s end. If Congress does not act now, American small businesses, middle-class families and seniors will see their health care costs increase incrementally over the next decade. Failure to act will have serious financial consequences, particularly for those who bear the brunt of this regressive tax—those making between $10,000 – $50,000 annually. Americans want Congress to lower health care costs and there are bipartisan solutions on the table that policy makers can pass now. The clock is ticking and the time to Stop The HIT is now—before it’s too late.”
